Willow Springs Chipping/Putting Greens
Exciting Renovations Coming to Willow Springs Golf Course!
We’re thrilled to announce an exciting upgrade at Willow Springs Golf Course! Starting Monday, September 16th, we’ll be regrassing both the Putting Green and Chipping Green with Platinum Paspalum, a premium turfgrass that should significantly improve the playability and aesthetics of these areas. This is a first for the Alamo City Golf Trail, and we’re eager to see the results.
The Process Here’s what you can expect over the coming week:
- Monday, 9/16 – Tuesday, 9/17: Stripping the existing sod from both the Putting and Chipping Greens. A total of 12,000 square feet will be cleared to make room for the new grass.
- Tuesday, 9/17 – Wednesday, 9/18: Once the old sod is removed, a specialized 90/10 sand mix will be laid down to ensure optimal drainage and surface preparation for the new grass.
- Thursday, 9/19 – Friday, 9/20: The sod and sprigs will be delivered and installed. Sprigs will cover the greens while a 3-foot-wide collar of sod will frame each green. We will add fertility agents and a top-dressing of sand to ensure the new grass takes root successfully.
Why Platinum Paspalum? Platinum Paspalum is known for its durability and excellent performance in warm climates and thrives in water with high salt contents, making it a perfect choice for Willow Springs. This turfgrass offers superior texture, smoothness, and resilience, which will enhance your playing experience.
What to Expect Throughout this process, both the Putting and Chipping Greens will be temporarily closed. We appreciate your patience as we work to bring these upgrades to life. Our goal is to have the greens ready for play as soon as possible, with a noticeable improvement in quality.
